Rockhouse under new management

Post by The Hangout » Sun Jul 18, 2004 11:47 pm

I just wanted to let everyone know that as of Friday, July 16th I am the new owner of the climbing gym in Richmond (The Rockhouse). The name will be changing to The Hangout and a huge focus put back into climbing.

I've got a tonne of plans for the place including adding new climbing and bouldering walls, new holds, new equipment and a much better vibe. Come down and check us out if you're in the Richmond area - our website will also be up in 3-4 weeks.

It sure is Pete - I'll be setting up a pro shop and selling fORA at the gym too once I get my renos done. Danny, I'll probably give you a call in the next week or so about some of the construction stuff.

Well ... I want to get a bunch of the renos done before I do anything official. I'll be having a comp in late Oct. or early Nov. as part of the "grand opening" - I might do something smaller before that though.

I went to check out the first bit of renos last night. I like the new bouldering wall. Its got some cool angles. Can't wait for the rest to be completed.

Great routesetting, guys.

Climbed at the Hangout a couple weeks ago-- though the space isn't as tall as at some lower mainland gyms, the new routesetting packs technical fun into the full length of the routes-- nearly every move an interesting one. Great to see a new option for those of us on the south side of town! :)

The website is up ... well sort of, it's only a temp one but it's at www.hangoutclimbing.com

As for the comp, we will be holding the forth comp of the Western Tour de Bloc series on January 22nd. Stay tuned for more info on this ... it'll be cool.
