CLIMBERS MEETING IN SQUAMISH
Wednesday July 14th, 7:00pm to 8:30pm
Garibaldi Room of the Howe Sound Brew Pub.
Some important things are up for discussion. Please try to attend.
QUICK NEWS
A short news update of 10-15 minutes, including recent climbing closures in the Cheakamus Canyon.
CHIEF/MALAMUTE
Everything will change in the Chief frontcountry over the next few years. The main goal of the meeting is to form a common position of what climbers want--and dont want--in front of the chief. The SAS will carry this forward it to the Highway redesign teams and work toward trying to make sure it happens.
There will be a short presentation, with maps and photo-diagrams, to explain what options and possibilities exist, with the pros and cons of each. It is very important that climbers have a clear idea of what is being proposed, and to speak out for the changes we believe are in our best interests. No-one else will do it for us. Things are set to change big time.
Some Questions To Decide.
Which type of intersection off the Highway is best for us?
Where do we want expanded parking? (there will be at least a 50% increase)
How do we want new access roads to reach the new parking?
Where do we want this new parking to be built?
Do we want a special climbers parking centre?
How do we want to get across to the Malamute?
Do we want any kind of landscaping or noise-reduction berms along Psyche Ledge?
Please give all these questions some careful thought, attend the meeting, and let us know what you think.
