Weekend Rock Conditions

Post by Blake » Tue Feb 12, 2008 1:47 pm

If the forecast holds out, and the weekend is upper-40s and sunny in Squamish, which areas are most likely to be dry and climbable?

If everything is going to seep too much to be worth the 2hr drive, that is great information to have as well.

thanks!

Best bet is Penny Lane or Neat and Cool. These areas dry pretty quickly. If bouldering is your thing the Apron Talus dries fastest. If the sun is shining, there's climbing to be had. Some stuff seeps for a while but usually you can reach past or not use the wet holds (Penny lane, Quarryman. etc.). Trust me, it'll be worth the drive.

If I was a pessimist like Axel and Cloudraker, I would'nt have over 20 days on rock this year (including two trips up the grand wall). Just saying.

Just kidding around JSmith - I climb year-round too and will be on the stone this weekend regardless.

I'm not a pessimist. I guess I've just been climbing long enough that I'm over the "Gotta climb everything all the time! Climbing is everything. Nothing is better than climbing! Even when it sucks it's good!" phase.

I live close enough that I can shoot up when it's good. In my opinion though, driving more than 45 min to squamish in the winter to see if there are a couple dry routes to do, is an act of desperation. Spend the gas money on a cheap ticket to Vegas.

You can have your 20 days of frozen fingers and headlamp descents.

Things are still looking good. I bet squish will be "in" this weekend.
