ice climbing courses

Post by phoenix » Mon Oct 09, 2006 10:46 am

I'm looking to get into ice climbing this winter, and I would like to take an intro ice climbing course.

Can anyone recommend a good ice climbing course?
Also, is MEC the only place in town (Vancouver area) to rent ice gear?

Thanks.

you can find courses here: http://www.themountainschool.com/
their office is right by MEC in vancouver.

otherwise, you can try and contact some ACMG-certified guides yourself. i did an ice course with Geoff Creighton and he's pretty good (i'm sure most of the guides around here are top notch). you can contact him directly at geoffcreighton@climbingwalls.net

most courses will provide gear if you don't have it....

I've already bought my ski pass, and I'm psyched to try out some ice climbing, and so lets think positive thoughts about the upcoming winter weather.

By the way, can you recommend any good books on ice climbing?

Lemme guess, you were one of those people who hoarded food and sold all their electrical appliances because of Y2K? Because of course, as was common knowledge in '99, all electric gizmos would malfunction and or explode and our society would collapse the day the calendar would roll over...
