SQUMFF 2006, August 4 & 5

The Squamish Film Society is pleased to announce SQUMFF 2006, the inaugural Squamish Mountain Film Festival, taking place August 4 & 5 at the Eagle Eye Theatre, Howe Sound Secondary School, Squamish, BC. Each evening starts with a pre-show reception at 6:30 pm sponsored by Whistler Brewing. Shows at 7:30 pm. Tickets are available at the door or in advance in Squamish at Climb On, Valhalla Pure Outfitters and the Squamish Adventure Centre. Tickets are $15/advance, $17/door.

The festival focuses on films and speakers from around the globe that depict adventure in the mountain environment, everything from sea to sky that is self-propelled.

This year gets off to a stellar start with featured speakers Peter Croft and Sonnie Trotter. Peter Croft, now living in Yosemite, returns to his “native” Squamish to present “A Life of Adventure” on August 4 and talk about his quest for solace in the mountains, from the highest peaks to the depths of injury and back up again. Sonnie Trotter, who has just freed “Cobra Crack”, at 5.14 b/c possibly the hardest trad route in the world, and has the film and photographic evidence to prove it, will deliver his gripping stories on August 5.

Breaking news: DREAMCATCHER, Josh Lowell’s short film on Chris Sharma’s first ascent of “Dreamcatcher”, 5.14d, in Squamish; and BACK TO THE WALL, Ivan Hughes’ documentary about quadriplegic climber Brad Zdanivsky scaling the Chief will be premiered at the SQUMFF on Saturday, August 5th!
