hitchhiking from van - best spot?

Post by the alpine scrub » Tue Apr 15, 2008 9:18 am

Anyone have any recommendations for the best place to hitch hike from along the 99? I have picked up hitchers at horseshoe bay where the road goes to one lane, but maybe someone has a better suggestion?

I used to get rides all the time at Horseshoe Bay. Stand just across from the overpass since cars coming out from West Van or off the ferry are sometimes more likely to pick you up. Highway construction has F*cked up the best pickup spot now though. Many drivers will not pull over there anymore because of the narrow shoulder.

Make sure your rope or pad is out in view. Having a rope visible gets you picked up faster.

Hitching BACK from Squamish the best places are pretty much across from the Apron parking lot and at Darrel Bay traffic light. Nobody wants to stop and pick up a hitcher at the Chief parking lot since two lanes are merging there.
