Accident today at Murrin Park

Post by rockies » Sat Sep 15, 2007 7:12 pm

A climber fell at the sugarloaf climbing area.
I went to check he was okay after seeing a fire engine turn up.
He was breathing and responsive.

Cause: His anchor failed, most likely not set up properly. He was also not wearing a helmet. Had hit the left side of his head, ear area had bled.
All of emergency services were present, ambulance, rcmp, and fire engine.

I climbed the same area after that, after finishing at the bog wall. The hydro tower at the top is solid as long as your anchors are set up properly.
He was lucky he his injuries were not far worse, since he was not wearing a helmet.

Take care climbing out there, and be safe, and please do wear a helmet.
