Post by GELATIN MAN » Wed Jul 11, 2007 9:50 am

:?

Wanna try to climb at the sanctuary this wkend but not sure where to find it .
Tried twice b4 but got lost .The trail markers are very vague at best .
Have there been any improvements in labelling the trail with markers lately ?
Or does anyone have good sure beta on finding this crag ?

If I remember correctly, it's right near the 6th telephone pole after the big bend on the main trail/path. Make any sense?

Look for the flagging, plus there is a cairn..........btw, we are going to work on it on Friday as part of the Squamish Mountain Festival volunteer day. If you want to volunteer go to the link on the homepage of this site.

I remember taking a trail last year at the 6th telephone pole and also remember after entering into the woods the trail going two ways ( straight and right ) .
Unfortunately we went straight which was flagged orange and did not find the crag .
The trail going right was flagged yellow and seemed to follow a dried creek bed.
Anyways after romping around for 30-40min we gave up & went elsewhere .
Should we have taken the trail on the right going along this creekbed ??

I think DFO flagged the creekbed b/c it does carry fish when it runs. Not to sound like a penis, but I think it's pretty hard to get lost in there :? There is a trail that branches off LEFT, but that goes to the Sanitarium. Anyways, as I said it should be pretty clear after tomorrow...........

Seemed pretty easy to find using the Squamish Select description about one month ago? Maybe we got lucky?

The trail off the main trail is at the 6th telephone pole if you count the first pair as 2. There is another trail one pole farther down the main trail past the Sanctuary trail. That's the one Geletan Man probably took. I have no idea where the hell that one goes but it just keeps on going up. Not that we took that one or anything.

There's lots of ribbons to mark the trailhead plus a cairn. Also, the trail has been vastly improved, the steep section now has some stairs and the the belay stances on the Westwing have been redone. Thanx to all the volunteers on the Adopt a Crag event last Friday..........

:o

Wow !
What an improvment .
Got to the sanctuary without any problems .
My thanks to all we made this a good experience.
Had loads of fun at the basement & west wing.
Can't beleive the 4 bolt 11a on the R side of the basement is only 11a .....
Sure is a stiff warm up .
You sure that's properly graded ? 11a ? ....... 11....?
aw gee ..........
Talk about humble pie ...

If you are upset about that 11a, do Morpheus, its rated 12a and easier than most 11s in squamalia.

To Mcpl's 'It's a hard onsight though'
Aren't grades supposed to be 'onsight' grades?
Whether you think you can or you think you can't... you're right.

I don't think so. If you think about it.... if you're trying a route for the first time and you miss a key hold because either you weren't looking in its direction or it was "hidden" that will totally make it harder. Hence, one would conclude its a harder route.
