SAS Beta: Parking Developments at Chek
I was up at Chek this afternoon and noticed a few things that will impact access up there.
First, the Ministry of Tourism, Sport and the Arts have started doing some work to the "recreation area": the road past the new parking spot (with the toilet) is now regraded and filled, so you don't have to own a Tundra or WRC car to get up there. Thanks is due the Ministry.
Second, they are doing work on that new parking spot; looks like levelling it out, expanding it a bit, etc.... Not quite sure the exact plans but we have a call in, so stay tuned. There is heavy equipment in there now, and it looks like more rough-fill is needed, so don't park there, rather go all the way up, stay at the bottom or use the small side pullouts to the fullest (enough space for dump trucks)
Finally, there is a notice posted at the lowest parking, next to the highway on a tree on the south side of the lot. It is announcing, or perhaps soliciting public feedback on, a service road heading south of there for several hundred meters to the rock dome on which the hydro tower is perched. Looks like Bell Mobility is putting in a tower and small building. There may be some crew action around the lot shortly, so be careful where you park (we have a call in as well on this). I guess the good news is that it may open up access to that west facing mini-cliff that many of us have visited over the years (would be good on cold, clear autumn afternoons), as well as those longer slabs (both of which you can see if you are at the sport temple or sport lounge). Stay tuned....
