North Van boulderers

Post by Dooley » Mon Jul 17, 2006 11:59 am

A request to any North Van boulderers that are sending on a certain boulder in a N. Van valley. I would like to hook up with you! Hint, this boulder involves ~ 25 min hike!

If you could PM me, that would be great. If you dont already know where this rock is, I am not giving away the location.

Thanks,
Shane

I find it pretty sad how even in the climbing community some people are so posessive and egotistical they think they "own" things like boulders. I wish I was as cool as dooley so I could be in on these little secrets and then I could post crap like "I am not giving away the location nah nah nah".
...sigh

Ahhh let the flaming begin.....first off, this is within a high traffic area. SO I dont want to go telling the location then having access issues to deal with. This why I want to talk to the person/persons that have been on this boulder already.

So before you start flaming why dont you learn all the facts. Till then keep your childish comments to yourself!!!

the north van boulders need to be kept low profile. discussed access with a ranger who asked me where i was going the other day. he was concerned with 'increased traffic from an unplanned user group.' i left feeling like only yuppies with a couple of unleashed dogs shitting everywhere are welcome.

i've been up there off and on since last summer. the two large main boulders were mostly scrubbed before me (nice work to whoever!). i've scrubbed around 15 more problems, mostly scattered around up the hill to climbers left. only one is of high quality, a nice little v3 on the first boulder encountered. start low, match sloper block, slap for top.

on the first large boulder i scrubbed the sh*t out of that cool overhanging crack/seam on the right side. that's going to be a fcking good problem.

all in all i think the main boulder is up there in quality with emerging dream and animal magnetism in squish. still a few hard lines to go down too.

shhh.

I figured that the park rangers would have a problem with "mat clad" individuals. Maybe we will have to talk with them and come to an understanding. Communication is the best way to deal with access issues!

Thanks for the input shiojj!

Climbers have been aware of these boulders since the dark ages.

It seems like every few years another faction comes along to do repeat first ascents.

Anyone found the rurps yet?

Well, if you send it and you have never seen anyone else send the line before you then it must be a first ascent! Am I wrong?

Isn't "vegetation removal" including scrubbing, ILLEGAL in this particular park? Like it says on the sign at the parking lot?
