Novice looking for advice

Post by phoenix » Sat Feb 25, 2006 11:34 am

I'm a beginner looking for advice.

My climbing experience is very limited – a few times in the gym and an intensive week in Banff/Jasper. The outdoor climbs occurred many years ago. I want to spend the summer climbing in Squamish, but I need some serious remedial help to get going.

Can anyone offer me some advice on finding a good climbing course? Currently I’m considering Canadian West Mountain School (Rock 2) – is there anything better that you could recommend?

Thanks.

You may want to try one of the local climbing gyms (ex. Cliffhanger or The Edge). They offer several courses that may help. Depends on what you are looking for (belaying, lead climbing, placing gear, etc...). They're also a good place to meet other climbers. The easiest way to get started is to go with someone who knows the area(s).

I second this. I've dealt with Marc on more than one occasion and I would go back in a heartbeat.

Thanks!

I've given Marc a call and booked myself into a course. Unfortunately the course doesn't happen until April. :( I guess I will be hitting the indoor gyms until then. :)
