Olesen Creek Logging Commencement
Olesen Creek Logging Commencement
Hi All:
Squamish Access Society has been informed by Oceanview Forest Products, the licensee for Cutblock SW144 in the Olesen Creek drainage on south side of Slhanny, that they are going to commence harvesting operations at the end of September. The following is the timing of operations: "Falling and road building will commence at the end of September 2015 . Hauling should commence about October 12, 2015. Harvesting and hauling operations should be completed by the middle of December 2015.
The roads we will be hauling on are :
Shannon FSR from 2.2km
Stawamus-Indian FSR from 1.6km and,
The Mamquam River FSR from 3.8km to the highway."
During falling and road building operations, access to the Longhouse and Slhanny backside trails and climbing area (Barley areas in Squamassif guidebook) will be closed for safety reasons. SAS has asked Oceanview their planned weekly operation hours and are currently awaiting a response regarding this. During hauling operations we suggest that climbers avoid the Stawmus FSRs (especially without a radio) to not be crushed under a loaded logging truck and to drive very cautiously on the Mamquam FSR and make sure you are parked well off the road.
Signage regarding restrictions and operations hours is to be posted at the starts of all affected roads.
Sincerely
Chris Small
Squamish Access Society.

SAS was informed by BCTS yesterday that logging of SW 144 is to be deferred to 2016 due poor lumber markets presently. SAS is to be informed if and when prior to harvesting of this block.
