Rock On - climbers urinating at belay stn
Rock On - climbers urinating at belay stn
On Saturday, July 20, 2013, when I reached the top of 2nd pitch and was about to setup the belay anchor, I was shocked by the horrible smell of urine! It's a big ledge with a small tree at the right hand side of chain anchors that climbers urinated on!! Unfortunately I had to belay next and breathe the disgusting air for much longer!
This multi-pitch route is rated as TOP 100 in Squamish Select book. Climbers should show considerations on such popular climbs.

Sorry, that was Sean D. He not only pees a lot but has loose bowels, especially when he's on lead.
I'll remind him to only defile routes that aren't in the TOP 100. He should know better

Guy Edwards left a corn-studded coiler at one of the belays of Teetering on the Brink once.

Anybody can easily hold it in on a top 100 route. How dare they!

Uh, no, sometimes you just can't hold it...

I am appalled that someone would do such a thing. I would certainly piss my pants long before considering urinating on a 'top 100' and possibly rendering the next climber's experience a 'Top 99' due to the presence of a urine like fragrance at a belay station. What should we do? Perhaps a group could rappel the route with some buckets of soap, brushes, respirators and some kind of de-odorizing concoction to return the route to its original 'un-pissed-on' state. That could be a worthwhile endeavor.

I think people should seriously consider wearing bags when they climb top 100 routes.

atleast it was only an odour of urine and not the pile of poo I had the pleasure of putting my flip flopped feet into only 6 meters left of the base of Rambles and a mere 50m from a perfectly good outhouse..

More seriously, there is no need to belay at the second belay of Rock On. It is easy to link or simul all the way to the 3rd belay, especially with 70m ropes. So no need to stop and belay in whiz, when you can choose to just whiz on by.
