Squamish Search and Rescue gets Kudos

Post by squamish climber » Thu May 23, 2013 9:05 am

A Climber wrote the Chief Newspaper thanking the SSAR for extracting her off the Chief following a spinal injury in fall.
  • On May 5, after a bad fall on the second-to-last pitch of the Grand Wall, I sustained a serious back injury, I was able to make it just off of the Belly Good Ledge trail with the help of my partner Tom, who safely hauled me off of the last couple of pitches and supported me until I was no longer able to walk. He then immobilized me on the ground for a spinal injury and made the call to 911.

Luckily, we were just about 200 feet to a helipad landing and it was within 45 minutes that the Search and Rescue first responder paramedic members arrived to the scene and started their first aid. I want to take this opportunity to kindly thank you all for your professionalism and safely getting me off the Chief and down to the Squamish Hospital. I was very impressed at how smooth the ride went and how efficient the whole scene was run. I am aware that you all voluntarily spend much of your weekend training for this type of scenario and it showed!

    Thank you.

Hope you heal up quick Kathia and props to SSAR

Gnarly stuff.

Here's hoping for a full recovery.
Imaging how much funner this could be with booze and explosives
