Camping at the base of the Chief
Camping at the base of the Chief
Planning on our first visit to Squamish this summer. Four of us are arriving on a Saturday afternoon. What is the best strategy for securing a campsite at the Chief? Show up early Sunday morning and see if we can find anyone leaving? If that fails, try again Monday morning? Any suggestions on how to score a campsite at the Chief would be great.
What about backup camping options?
Thanks! Climb Ohn. Wally

Not too many people there just yet; you shouldn't have a problem.
Re: Camping at the base of the Chief
If you're arriving on a weekend, it honestly depends on the weather. If it's bluebird, you might have to see if anyone looks friendly enough to share their campsite until Sunday afternoon when many spots will open up.
Alternate camping options include:
Free: Almost anywhere up the many forestry roads around town (security of your stuff: zero)
Cheap: The municipal campground beside the Brennan Park Recreation Centre (esthetics: zero, but close to the Smoke Bluffs, and showers and the pool are right next door)
Not cheap: Klahanie Campground, Dryden Creek Campground, Alice Lake Provincial Park, Squamish Valley Campground
Good luck and enjoy your first visit!

Kris - great beta - thank you! Yes, looking forward to my first visit.
Nate - thanks for posting up. Wish I was arriving now, but we won't be there for another couple of months.

Oh my bad. For some reason I derived from your post that you would be here like this weekend or something.
