Overly Hanging Out: Extended edition

Post by gnarnaphobe » Thu Sep 29, 2011 7:32 am

I would like to clean up and send this traverse pitch into OHO;
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/q ... directlink

It is noted in the 2001 Mclane book to have been the line originally aided by Eric Lance and Brian Norris into OHO, in 1970.

Does any one have info on the FFA?

It would require me to clean up the vegetation in the grungy corner to access it from the ground, but it is also trespassing to be down on the ground. What I was thinking was maybe putting an anchor at the start of the crack, approx 15 feet off the ground to avoid conflict with B.C. rail... Any thoughts, opinions or advice??

Who's approval would be needed for adding said bolted anchors? the FAists or the FFAists??
Also here's a funny story of my unintentional camera trundle;

great idea - and while you're in the neighborhood Meares Island and associated climbs could use a little sprucing up. They are excellent routes and good starts to Overly hanging out 2nd pitch. I think a Barley via ferrata rung ladder mat be a nice addition to accessing Meares island. Thats my 2 cents worth

talk to john Howe or Perry Beckham regarding meares Island

Bruce, | did a moss removal on the standard access corner to get up there and the some serious vegetation removal where you step out of the corner on the the ledge, Its not by any means Sparkling Clean, but passable forsure, I give it a scrub when it's dry.

Tami on ST, recommended I simply build a gear anchor If I want to by pass the extremely dirty cling peaches corner, and also avoid tresspassing. Which seems like the logical thing to do, the thought hadnt crossed my mind before she mentioned it because I've never been in such a situation before(rap access gear anchor).

She also suggested that we climbers honour the no trespassing down there, whats the general consensus here? Avoid spending excessive time down there? Dont go down there at all?

When are you considered trespassing, only when your feet are on the ground? what about if your standing on the 'Barley Bridges', or standing on a ledge 10 feet up?

Thoughts, opinions, advice?
