Magnetron auto-locking caribiners: Is BD onto something big?

Post by squamish climber » Tue Jul 19, 2011 1:44 pm

So a lot of buzz about this new innovative product by BlackDiamond that uses magnets instead of traditional screw gates or twist gates.

Check out BD's video on the new product. The biner doesn't come out until next July! That's a long time to keep people waiting.

Here's the write up on BD's sitehere

So has anybody held on of these? Post up with any info you have.

Very cool. I would definitely use this for a belay biner, but I kind of like the extra action required to unlock screwgates in an anchor: it makes you think twice about what you're unclipping.
