Heather Gray: Squam. Climbing Community loses one of its own

Post by squamish climber » Wed Dec 01, 2010 1:21 pm

Some of you may have heard that Heather Gray age 42, from Vancouver died Monday after a climbing fall in Red Rock Canyon, Nevada.

My sincerest condolences to her family and friends for their tragic loss. All the comments and posts by her friends and people who met her talk of Heather's selflessness, beautiful spirit and friendship.

According to posts on Supertopo and mountainproject Heather fell on the third pitch of the Friar, a route in the Lower Solar Slab area east of Johnny Vegas after a hold broke.

I received this email from her friend Jane:
Heather was planning to do her first ski this Saturday and then see her beloved “Led Zeppelin" tribute band at Merlin’s in Whistler. In honour of Heather and her joy of skiing, a group of her friends are planning to head to Whistler Saturday, lay first tracks in her memory and then dance at the show. The show will be dedicated to Heather and anyone interested can email me directly for details. The club is setting aside a section for all who confirm prior to Friday. Anyone who knew Heather is most welcome.
Thank you for your kindness...

If anybody would like to post their condolences or share their memories of Heather, I'm sure her friends and family would appreciate it.

RIP Heather Gray

I knew Heather very well. We used to climb together and even worked together for a while. She was a very unique person, and she was utterly lovely. She climbed hard, and skied even harder, she had a great bunch of friends, and she lived a full life, well worth living.

Farewell, Heather.

Heather's service was held in Toronto on Dec 8th and I attended. I had known Heather since she was 3 and went to school with her and her older sister, Jennifer for years. She was a beautiful person as a child and grew to be even more spectacular as a woman. Heather was an exceptional person and her Vancouver friends spoke eloquently and lovingly about her. She was a ski demon and a nature lover. Her passion for rock climbing was obvious. We have lost someone special.

Thanks Mary and Robbie and I'm sorry for your loss.

There was a short obituary in the Globe and Mail yesterday for Heather.

And here is the link to the story CTVdid about Heather. She helped a lot of people and lived a life well lived.
