Oh well, I sit corrected. Was the highway and railway completely closed for 12 days in 1991? I wonder if somewhere in the bowels of the Ministry of Highways someone has information on closures?

There've been several short closures, both weather and slide related, but none of similar length for many years.

The Squamish-Whistler highway is another story.
1991 just North of Lions bay rock fall closed the highway for 12 days
Ya, Anders memory vs. Google, google wins.

I would prefer not to hit them on the weekend. It's going to be a zoo.

I can drive you up Sunday or Monday but you have to get to North Van, one of you sits in the back with my dog and you pay for ALL the gas.

Priceless. Nothing better than some timely humor.

do NOT attempt this road with anything less than high clearance 4wd.

Some jackass phoned into the Fox radio station and declared it driveable by cars as well, and it was shown on Global News of all things as a viable alternative.

I drove it night before last, it took 6 hours from Chehalis to Pemberton, in a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Some parts were barely passable. It's in good shape for ~70km, then 10 km of hell, then decent again for ~70km

My sister and brother-in-law run Crawlinbc.com and they tell me the forums are aflame with 4x4ers who are pissed as hell as they tried to drive the road hours after us on Thurs and were blocked by stuck cars, and this is well before the rough part.

All in all it took us 8 hours of driving from Van to Squamish, would've been faster to go the long way (it did save us a half tank of gas and we got a rare, alone didp in the hotsprings! alone only because we got it at 4 am as we were frozen in the back of the jeep with only business clothes to warm us and couldn't sleep)

You don't need to be 8ft tall. Any takers.
