Re: Pic of the day!

Does anyone recognize this corner? Two make things more interesting, two hero loops are up for grabs for the correct guess... Is that the top pitch of the route put up a few years ago that goes up to Squamish Buttress ledge, but arrives on the south side? (I can't remember the name - it is 3 or 4 p...

I second that one. I find the earlier 5.10d pitch way easier than this bolted offwidth pitch.

Re: Favourite pitch in Squamish - any grade - any style

Second pitch of sunblessed. (BTW, least favorite pitch is the last pitch of that climb) Which way? I've only been on it once, and went up some slab out left, then a corner. Really good! No wide cracks. Hi J2V: It sounds like you did the last pitch of Mere Mortals (I may have the name wrong), rather...

Re: Favourite pitch in Squamish - any grade - any style

Hi johnL:

I used to feel the same way as you about last pitch of Sunblessed...until I tried stemming the first section, instead of jamming/groveling the wide crack. Give that a try next time. (It might not make it a favorite, but it might move up slightly in your rankings.)

Re: Local writers/climbers featured in August issue of Gripp

Finally got around to reading this new issue. Congrats to all who contributed. Many chuckles from Robin's ode to climbing friendships (er, rescues?). I liked all the local interest articles. Good job, Dave and others.

Crescent Crack (w/honourable mentions to Exasperator in 1 pitch, pitch 2 of Sunblessed and Super Value, oh, and pitch 2 of Centrefold for variety).

I don't climb enough sport to have an opinion...

Re: Is Squamish Soft?

Hey J2V: Yes, I agree that Snake is classic, old-school Squamish slab w/ "keep your head together" runouts. (Thanks for another excellent photo, Lurch.) So is Sparrow - another spicy 5.9 from 1970, bolted (sparsely, as they say in Squamish) by hand, on lead. I just climbed it again a month ago and w...

Re: Pic of the day!

Woo - hooo! It's been over a decade since my one and only time leading Quagmire Crack. It is a fun crack...I'll have to get back there one of those days. Thanks for the memory-inducing photo!

Now somebody please correctly guess J Mace's photo...

Re: Out of towners - Live at Squamish = busy and big crowds

Hi Dave, When walking back to the Apron parking lot from the backside trail, I spotted lots of road-tripper vehicles, judging from license plates: Alberta, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Ontario and Georgia to name a few. Good to see folks making the effort to sample the fine Squamish stone. While clim...

Re: Pic of the day!

OK, this is a bit of a shot in the dark...but it looks like the Malamute to me, and from my creaky memory: is it Quagmire Crack?

Steve

ps: I don't have a clue about J Mace's "guess you would have to finish this 5 or 6 pitch route to recognize this final pitch"...anybody recognize it?
