Re: Inaugural Golden Scrub Brush Awards
Love this idea - seems like a great way to pay respects to the time, effort and cost all the route developers have invested so we all can benefit. -- Thanks for the initiative Chris Small et al at the Squamish Access Society. Feel sorry for the panel of judges -- too many possible winners. I'll have...

Re: Heads up Gran Fondo cycling race Saturday - expect delay
A reminder that the race is this Saturday. The Chief paper summarizes the delays around Squamish Cyclists then wind their way through North Vancouver and West Vancouver before blasting through Lions Bay, Furry Creek, Britannia Beach and then Squamish. As in past years, the course will travel along H...

Re: Honnold solos U-Wall?
Great article/interview here at Alpinist where he talks about his ascent. This is what he says about the hardest part: One of the best parts for me was the crux of the second pitch, a sloppy and insecure undercling traverse that I'd always thought would be the scariest part. I knew how I planned to ...

A wedding day climb
A couple climbed the Chief via Calculus Crack and the Squamish Buttress to their wedding ceremony on top of the Chief. I like the symbolism of climbing together as a team and the trust required. Then there is the thrill and passion that comes naturally from climbing. Kind of like marriage. Congratul...

Honnold solos U-Wall?
Word out on Instagram and the Instanet is that Alex Honnold soloed University Wall 5.12, 900 feet and 8 pitches yesterday (Aug 26/14). This is unconfirmed so far but if verified must be one of the boldest Squamish solos...ever. Recall in 2011 Honnold soloed Northern Lights 5.12a, 12 pitches, which i...

Climber accident on Apron Aug 23 and SAR
I see from local news reports there was an accident Saturday on the Apron. A climber fell and had a lower leg injury and possibly a back injury. Does anybody know anymore? What climb were they on? The Global item says the Apron was so busy Squamish SAR had to drop two members at the top of the Apron...

Any tips for climbing Squamish Music Fest Weekend?
For one long weekend, Squamish is going to be both a rock climbing and live music mecca. The Squamish Valley Music festival starts tomorrow and if you have not heard -- it's going to be big. Over twice as big as last year from 32 acres of land to 81 this year and more than 30,000 plus daily festival...

Re: UK climber considering a trip to Squamish Sep 22nd - Oct
Gwilym, Welcome to Squamish and Squamishclimbing. September is a fantastic time to climb and visit Squamish. The temps are cooler, although early October can be rainy. It is getting to the end of the climbing season for many visiting climbers so there may not be as many people looking for partners, ...

Why Squamish needs a climbing gym
Local climber and guide, Jeremy Blumel has written an intriguing piece in his rock climbing column in the Chief Here is a bit of the column: Currently all Squamish has for a year-round, indoor climbing facility is the Grandwall Bouldering Co-op. It’s small, geared toward advanced- to fanatic-level c...

New Ammenity in Smoke Bluffs Park
Given the heat-wave, I think this water fill station is a great addition for climbers and their four legged friends. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-gppoPH_Lyq0/U9krErGL27I/AAAAAAAAH8A/mC8PpF9VVk8/w462-h616-no/2014-07-29%2B11.22.46%2B%281%29.jpg What do people think of the new vermi-composter toi...

Re: Cable Car threatens Iconic Tasmanian Crag
Sounds like a great climbing area. Good luck with campaign to stop the cable car. We did it once, when the original idea was to put a gondola to the top of the Chief. Do you have any links you can post? I came across a photo, is this the mountain they want to put a gondola on? http://www.climb.dk/bl...
