Yeah, its either 5.10-, 5.10, or 5.10+. Way simpler. :) Some say people can be divided into lumpers and splitters. I would be perfectly happy to just say 5.9, 5.10, 5.11. To REAL alpinists it is just 5th class or it isn't. But don't pretend that there isn't a glorious tradition of wasted breath: "I...

Can you really tell the difference between an 11c and an 11d, or an 11d and a 12a, ect. I sure as hell can't. I agree that grades are completely subjective. I could tell you how hard I think something is for me from 1 to 10. 1 being I could do it in my street shoes, 10 being at the limit of my phys...

Re: Priorities
A lot of people in this thread seem to be really concerned with how much money went into this project. Here is all anyone should really care about: 1) There's a brand-spanking new route on the Chief, free of dirt and debris. 2) It's not hard, so regular folks should be able to get up it. To the top...

Re: Millenium Falcon - Last 4 pitches?
Can someone describe the "Gold ribbon" pitch that ends the route above bellygood? I see different listings and descriptions in the different books. THANKS! That pitch is tip-toeing on dike nubbins like Women in Comfortable Shoes but longer, well protected by bolts, with a crux near the top that I w...

Re: Renaming a route after you clean it.
So I’ve been following the progress of the cleaning of Crap Crags. All I can say is WOW! My amazement at the Herculean effort that has been put into the project, is second only by the amount of money that’s been spent on it. $10,000!!?? Can you believe that?? Any way, I’m curious about the decision...

Re: Photo idea!
Over time we would build up a photo database of every route in squamish with photos of every pitch. An encyclopedist. I've already found this site useful for information on Frankenstein Tradster, Everything Under the Sun, and Upper Echelon. I like almost everything Squamish-climbing-related but pho...

I'd really like to please everyone, but it's just not possible, as different people want to see different things happen. Jeff Whoa. The idea of trying to please anyone let alone everyone scares me as a climber. I don't think even conventional standards of climbing behaviour can be applied to this c...

Re: cleaning project
I went to climb Millinieum Falcon yesterday early morning and hiked up to find the area at the bottom taped off. (thanks for doing that). I have to say we were a little ticked off at the time being that we had looked forward to climbing this route for a while and my buddy had just drove from Bend t...

Re: Upper Echelon grades
I did the route with Andy ("itsonlyadream") and we found some of the pitches pretty stiff for the posted grades. Pitch 3, in particular, seemed much harder than pitch 6 (both listed at 10c). Andy redpointed it but I heard some distinct huffing and puffing. It was an onsight unless my STM is shot, b...

Thanks for the comment. I have been having trouble posting topos and photos so here is a link to where you can view them: http://www.clubtread.com/sforum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=23022 It is a really fun route and we hope it will become popular. Please give it a go. We did this August 12. Thanks for all ...

Jeff-- Cleaning Crap Crags should be great practice for scrubbing up that nightmare North North Arete. Good luck! _ Mike Hengeveld Yes, Jeff. Start at that end and work south. A paranoid could look forward to when the Chief resembles construction season in the big city  . Personally, I...
