Squamish election

The municipal election in Squamish is coming up on Nov. 15. There are advance polls in case it is sunny and dry on Nov. 15 and you would otherwise need to squeeze in one more day on your project before winter, winter road trips etc. A bunch of useful details are set out here (who can vote, where, et...

That's been done already - check out Nubile Woman and Burgers and Fries south for some good examples. Many trees that are impacting climbs at these areas and others have been removed this season under the direction of the Smoke Bluffs Ctte.

Good work on the cleaning and new-routing at High Cliff - that Fred Snails route looks particularly good. The area as a whole could certainly use more traffic - the routes on both sides of Red Nails are in need of more climbing as they remain somewhat "ripe". While I'm not one to usually encourage t...

Warning: These comparisons are extremely rough, hopefully they help. Climb & Punishment has a crux that is similar in feel and grade to the lower sword crux, and the top of A Little Testis, being 10a/b steep hands, is similar crack size to parts of the Split Pillar, although significantly shorter. Yes, but you have to diagonal over left to the anchors on the top of Pin-up, then you can rap down the top pitch of that route, then you rap back over to Moccasin Ledge & on down. Or you can rap Centrefold directly with a 70m rope.

I would still be cautious about climbing at the Gorge. Highways committed to more scaling of blast rock from the cliffs above Gotham City (ie rock fall) this spring - what I don't know is if that is done yet. If not, better to not be climbing there. There is a rebolting program that was ongoing as w...

Tricky subject. Firstly, there is quite a bit that can be done with rap approaches - the guidebooks are very helpful, the 2005 Climbers Guide to Squamish is pretty clear about what's outside of the right of way and open and what is not. Some of the rap approaches are still hard to find, though - be ...

"Chip wall" is a good historical example of what not to do, and in defence of guidebook authors, in the the latest McLane guide it is referred to in pasing as a "defunct best-forgotten chipped line of a bygone area". I don't think that those brightly coloured holds will last long, though - that is p...

FYI cleaning on chief - be aware

I was out bouldering in the forest over lunch today and saw a note posted on the BC Parks sign at superfly saying that some cleaning will be ongoing through the winter on a new route in the western diehedrals area and that boulderers should watch for possible rockfall in areas south of the black dyk...

There was a meeting today between climbers, BC Parks and the movie folks. Damage is being assessed and the hope is to sort out some solutions to the problems the filming created. If you have a view about possible solutions that you would like to see come out of this, post it here before the weekend ...

I don't think this is District of Squamish issue - its a BC Parks decision, I believe. I gather there have been many e-mails sent to CASBC expressing negative sentiments about this and the Squamish Access Society is also certainly aware of the problem. There are meetings ongoing with BC Parks and th...
