To quote Hannibal Smith (some of you are old enough to know who he was)

Great work, Kris!
Did you get funds from the CASBC anchor replacement fund?

Re: New Routes Right of Zoe, Murrin Park.

Stewart, I think you raised this issue in a thoughtful and respectful way... which is a rarity when it comes to bolt issues. When it comes to protection, I tend to be rather liberal. That said, I do think that there is such a thing as too many bolts. To anyone thinking of placing a bolt, I urge you ...

Re: Photophobia 5.10 5 p on Slhanay (Squaw)

I too think this is a quality line. For sure in the top 10 new trad lines (sub 5.11) in the past 5 years. Best parts - Pitch 1. Second half. An incredible, vertical meat-and-potato corner. Lots of good feet on the face. Excellent gear. Exposed. Burly 10b. Quality. The photo upthread is accurate. It'...

Re: Has Vegetation Removal gone too far in Smoke Bluffs Park

I ran into a climber at the base of Skywalker a few weeks back. Conversation turned to the topic of the gondola. I said "looks like a done deal". She said "yeah, too bad about that." I said "too bad? I'm all for it." Then I suggested that if Skywalker's development had been visible to the public lik...

Re: Skywalker, 5p, 5.8

The first pitch is drying faster ever since someone modified the waterflow atop p1. Whether water will be streaming in between EPB and The Fork is the question. Dunno.
Do know that the base has been all swankified. No more puddle o' mud.

Re: Rambles (4p, 5.8)

Great to hear that so many people are having fun on it.

I also saw Fred at the top of The Flume (p2) on Skywalker on Sunday. The man still gets after it 90. May we each live to be so able-bodied at that age.

Re: Rambles (4p, 5.8)

Regarding elitism. The "elites" of Squamish have done a great deal for Squamish. They developed many many routes in their style. If you don't like the style of their climbs or their attitude, fair enough. There's room enough for difference in taste. As a route developer, I tried to advance my own pe...

Re: Rambles (4p, 5.8)

Why is the route 4 pitches, rather than 2? One of the most difficult things about route development is to think about the route not from your own perspective as a seasoned climber but from the perspective of someone who has never climbed a multipitch 5.8 before. Think about what it would be like to ...

Re: Rambles (4p, 5.8)

Agreed. I think it dries pretty quickly. If Diedre is dry, Rambles will be dry too.

I may have miscommunicated above. I'm movin to Manitoba in August. Squamish is still my home. for now.

Re: Rambles (4p, 5.8)

Kris, I'm touched.
Little did I know that I helped nudge the Wayne Gretzky of Squamish route development into wearing the 99 once again.
I'd be honoured to know that a route has that name...

Re: Rambles (4p, 5.8)

Thanks for the suggestion. I agree that M to M has a nice ring to it. For various reasons, however, Rambles will be the name. The route is named after someone. And it is now in the soon-to-be-printed next edition of the Squamish Select. Besides, M to M is about me. This route is about you and your e...
