Re: Some scary moments on Calculus Crack with a happy ending

if you solo its yr choice ... just dont put others at risk ... Some times I wonder if soloing would be half as popular if there were no "others" to put at risk because it is those same "others" that are going to come save you when you f**k up. You say the kid had the foresight to bring a sling to h...

Re: Some scary moments on Calculus Crack with a happy ending

i sometimes wonder what would happen if a soloer fell above a party/parties on a popular multi route ... Another scenario to consider is what would happen if a soloer tried to pass another party, the seconder got scared/slipped/pumped out, fell, weighted their rope only to -bump- the soloer climbin...

Re: Public Safety Issue - Europa/Crap Crags

Got on Crap Crags for the first time the other day. It's been two years since the comments on this topic was first posted and I can say that the situation on this climb has gone from bad to ridiculous. Clearly a couple of years of freeze thaw action, post devegitation have done a number on this rout...

Re: Has Vegetation Removal gone too far in Smoke Bluffs Park

Having had a hand in the cleaning of Respiration Rock I can give a little insight. For starters, in March of 2012 that area looked like hell. Muddy punched out base upturned stumps, shoulder high piles of cut brush and bramble. Ropes, tarps and random hand tools littering the base. All we needed was...

Re: Comic Rock Roadside Graffiti

You can take comfort that someone in a pickup truck had backed on up to the cliff side and was hard at working removing said graffiti with the use of a pressure washer early this evening. Looked like a lot of work but it would be nice to see it gone before it attracts more graffiti. So to who ever i...

Re: Crag/Trail Work Suggestions

Trail below Crystal Wall. Lots of work done between Lumberland and Crag X. Trail leading to Crystal Wall from Lumberland was excavated with a machine, had a small bridge built over a seasonal stream, even had these "railing like things" installed, but the jobs wasn't finished. For some bizarre reaso...

Re: The ethics of new routing.

Generally speaking tree removal is frowned upon. IMO this stems from the fact that much of the most popular climbing areas in North America are located on protected park land, were the removal of trees -for any reason- is a forbidden. Understanding this, most people believe that this rule is then un...

Re: Rambles (4p, 5.8)

Sorry to see you're moving to Manitoba Jeremy. Great looking route, IMO "Moving to Manitoba" is a MUCH better name then "Rambles", Given that you're been know for considering the opinions of others on matters concerning your routes, a quality rare amongst route developers, I submit that you change t...

Re: Here we go again (Squamish Gondola proposal)

People, THINK about how the gondola will change your climbing experience in the Stawamus Chief Provincial Park! Thought about it, and it won't IMO. I'm not going to be able hear the thing over the roar of the highway or rail line. I don't think it will spoil my view of the sound any more than the s...

Re: Murrin Park: old routes north of Lakeside in Woods

Regarding the metal you found. I have heard of climbers laying zinc strips at the tops of crags in an effort to kill the moss on the wall below. Could explain what you found. Kudos on the cleaning.

Re: Here we go again (Squamish Gondola proposal)

If one was to oppose this venture, they'd be mistaken in thinking that because this gondola goes though a BC Park that it is somehow in violation a sacred trust. I worked in BC Parks from 1994 to 2007 first as a Naturalist and then for my last 8 years as a Park Ranger. I am amazed at what people thi...

Re: Squamish Gondola Proposal – What YOU Can Do

At the risk of sounding unpopular, I for one support the creation of the Gondola. As for the Park issue, I believe it's worth reading the following link. http://www.seatoskygondola.com/updates/bc-parks-reclassification/ Does a 20m wide right of way and the reclassification of that right of way = a H...

Re: The Little Smoke Bluffs

I see  Lest we forget, the reason why all of Octopuses Garden isn't a perpetually wet moss carpet was because a few climbers had the good sense to removed the trees from its base. The result was the creation of one of the best and most popular crags in the bluffs. IMO this crag is worthy of a...
