Re: Cougar Crag?
Try this link for the photo of Knuckle Head. The 11b/c actually pulls the roof on the left side! http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/i327/rolfr1/KnuckleHead.jpg Hey, I recognize that. Halfway to the upper falls on the right side, right? There used to be a secret abandoned squatter cabin in the wood...

Re: North Van / West Van climbs
There are crags/routes that close to the city that are less busy, but they are the ones with no Internet details and no guidebook details. Some of their names appear earlier in this thread.

Re: The direct slab finish on Centerfold?
Yes. Walk north, not south, from the top. An actual trail leads back down to the base.jhwhite05 wrote: Is there better beta for the Pappose walk-off?

Re: Here we go again (Squamish Gondola proposal)
So this picture makes it look like the gondola will run right through the middle of Olesen Crag and specifically right through the spot on the south side with routes... the Overlook I think it's called?
Are they going to put a pylon right on that rock and wreck a couple crag routes?

Re: Here we go again (Squamish Gondola proposal)
I'd rather see a structure, either gondola or footbridge, across the Squamish River. A gondola with a base near the railway museum would be perfect.
It'd bring tourists into downtown, too.

Re: Birds of Prey - loose block status
The belays on Frayed Ends... or on the Barley routes out left of the final corner ought to give the best vantage for the cameraman? And it'd be a crime not to film such an awesome trundle.

It's on the Prow Wall, just right of (and sharing some pitches with) Teddy Bear's Picnic, rather than on the Kashmir side of the gully.Gravity Bong a 9 pitch 5.13 route up Kashmir Wall put up by Colin Moorhead, Tony Richardson and Jason Kruk

Re: The story behind Squamish route names
If I recall this story correctly, Luc told me "Under The Gun" refers to the 1990s false rescue when SAR and the RCMP got called out after a tourist mistook a haulbag left fixed at the highpoint of an aid route for a climber who had fallen and wasn't moving.

$20,000 will only pay for a little bit of gondola.

What about Gord's Block then? No bolts, pure crack, short and burly.

Re: 5.10 crack testpieces
Feel Me I'm 100% Rubber at the Rehabilitation Projects isn't a "pure crack testpiece" because of all the faceholds (it's more like gear protected face climbing) but it doesn't have any bolts and it is one of the steepest 10b finger cracks I can think of. Steeper than Blazing Saddles for sure. Doesn'...

Myles Holt tells me he climbed this crack on the dome a few years ago and that it goes at 10+. New anchors on top. The fixed sling was on an old home-made aluminum tube chock.
