Re: Good Restaurants?
Third negative review for the Brew Pub ... I am consistently disappointed when I'm dragged there. The service is often sub-par and the food is questionable, bland and often cool by the time it gets to the table. The beer is good, though, and I do return to the brew pub if I just want a pint to wrap ...

Re: Sullys projects
One of the benefits that Sully's has is that the LSCR is already very familiar with mountain bike riders developing and using resources within their area. In a lot of ways, climbers developing a resource in the LSCR is not so different. That's an excellent point ... I hadn't considered their histor...

Re: Some scary moments on Calculus Crack with a happy ending
I hear very similar arguments on car forums about street racing. One side proclaims that they are excellent drivers, only race when there is no one else around, don't lose control of their cars, etc. ... and the other side points out that tires blow and people die. The key difference is that public ...

Re: Sullys projects
Oh, I agree that it is unlikely that anything will happen unless traffic increases dramatically and climbers misuse the property. However, I've seen access issues blow up out of nowhere (bouldering access around Halifax in particular) and in two cases, we could have prevented it with a bit of foresi...

Re: Sullys projects
I do think that the "let's keep it all a secret" mentality is myopic --- much more decent climbing will be lost to moss (been to the Senior Center lately?) than to the rabid objection of locals in their patrolling SUV's. The issue at hand isn't the locals. Sully's is located in the Lower Seymour Co...

Re: Some scary moments on Calculus Crack with a happy ending
jipstyle - Sorry to hear about this. Did it happen in Squamish? Nope, this was back in Ontario at a crag called Mount Nemo ... it is along the Niagara Escarpment. The crag resembles the Smoke Bluffs in the sense that there are anchors at the top of the crag that are accessible on foot. You do have ...

Re: Some scary moments on Calculus Crack with a happy ending
Excellent post, harihari. Freesoloing is a tough discussion. On the one hand, I do enjoy it from time to time and in small doses ... but I've never freesoloed where I could be seen by others. I've had the misfortune of watching a man die in my partner's arms as his children watched because he feel f...

Re: Sullys projects
That guide covers areas that are going to get closed down because of it, hell your likely to get shot if you try to go to the Senior centre. I'm a bit worried about that as well. Sandbag: The grades that I offer for these routes are based on the hardest move I found on them ... this is how I've gra...

Re: Cypress Falls Bouldering Topo?
You are writing the new guidebook with the info on Sully's? I'm curious ... last I heard, the 'official' stance on climbing there was this: There will be no organized trail building relating to rock climbing, or posting of any information regarding or promoting the climbing area within the LSCR. Hav...

Re: A few days left to pre-order Squamish Select
I'm looking forward to getting my copy!
I've preordered and am mostly-patiently awaiting its arrival in my mailbox.
The fact that it has been a typically rainy early-June helps ... sorta.
