Re: Cable Car threatens Iconic Tasmanian Crag

The situation sounds very similar to the original Squamish Chief gondola proposal that was soundly defeated by local opposition. The basis which might work for you is that it destroyed an already existing high value and unique recreational resource used by a wide spectrum from the city and local. Th...

Re: Logging route development

So from these two replies it would appear that the issue that I brought up is not up for discussion because it came from someone who rides a trials motorcycle......attacking the credibility of the messenger is something that is usually done by people with no defensible argument. Speaking only for m...

Re: Logging planned above Squaw/ Olson creek

Anders! How good of you to at last weigh in. We were wondering if FOSC had gone the way of the dodo or was merely stewing in silent contemplation. No matter, good to see you have embraced our industrial stamp on the land. Me too. Oh wait..... I must disclose my material interest in this matter which...

Re: Death block alert! Claim Jumper

Claim jumper death block is now gone, and it didn't take much of a wiggle with the pry bar. A pull of a hand could have done it easy! Heads up out there. there was no real visible hint that this one was unstable at all. I gave a few other features a test or two ( like the stack of blocks after the c...

Death block alert! Claim Jumper

A precarious death block has been discovered on Claim Jumper, just as it joins Perspective at the final easy climbing. Its on the right side of CJ crack, generally off line of Perspective and can be avoided for claim jumper too. Its not terribly obvious but it does flex, and it sure looks sketchy - ...

It dosn't sound like the monster I was concerned with, which no way in hell you could safely haul back.

Re: Angel's Crest - Dangerously Loose Block

Mal - could you confirm this block is at top of the 2nd last pitch? I see you say "clmbers left of Boulder". Your block is avoidable? Could it be hauled back from the edge?

Re: Angel's Crest - Dangerously Loose Block

the second to last pitch? That thing is massive, more like a cubic meter of stone. I pulled on it myself two days ago and couldn't help noticing the suspect appearance, although there was no movement. I did see that if it does move, its going to slide easily on a sloper. That sounds like quite a ser...

Re: Logging planned above Squaw/ Olson creek

thanks for your time on it Jeremy ( and Peter too I think?) Our MLA Jordan Sturdy was present at the opening day ceremony of the Gondola. Clearly, by his atendance he is indicating his support for the recent Gondola / Squamish Chief centered eco tourism inititive. Perhaps it is all image and no subs...

Logging planned above Squaw/ Olson creek

A little heads up peeps..... Anyone familiar with the upper Olson creek zone ( Long house, Squaw trails, Tonys lookout) may be interested to know it is being laid out to log as we speak. Not visible from the valley much but front and centre in any view from two summits of the chief and the new Gondo...

Malemute - strawline, Loggers, OHO access

Just a note to advise that the access to "Mears Island", the bushy ledge used to climb a number of under used classics at south end of Malemute, is much easier. The installation of a 15 foot "ladder" means you no longer have to solo a dirty 5.8 crack with a pack of gear. The actual ledge is also les...

Re: Simpson - Strong Tie Bolts - Warning

Eric - thanks for pointing this out! I can't add anything other than a strong recommendation to throw away all Simpson tie brand bolts and to personally be aware of the product I am buying. There is no excuse for knowingly placing fixed gear that rates so far below the minimum standard or 20 kn. I'v...

Re: Poll: Sea to Sky Gondola Proposal

I always thought the Lapworth idea was brilliant but I understand there was a couple of concept killers: 1) construction cost sky high. 2) abysmal location presence The two combined equals risk off the chart, then there is the impossibility of a gondola above hydro lines, something that eliminates a...
