Camping along the upper Squamish?
I'm looking for a spot to car-camp for a night in the upper Squamish area, certainly upriver of the Cheakamus junction. I've found such places before, but I haven't been up there for a few years. All that's needed is flat, dry land. Nothing fancy. No tables, outhouses needed. We're basically just cr...

Re: Looking for details - Jim Sinclair's close call on the C
I don't remember much about SS Chimneys, except that they were dark and a bit damp. Not an area that we went back to very often. I do remember a squeeze chimney, but that could have been on a later outing.

Re: Looking for details - Jim Sinclair's close call on the C
No FAs together, but I think we did do something like Sunshine Chimneys (a couple of them) together one drizzly day. And I believe what used to be called Eleven Bolt Rock, the original route.gnarnaphobe wrote:Have you and Jim been in on any FAs together? Or some repeated routes together?

"Vertical Desert" (note spelling) is indeed the name of the film. Not all that short, either.squamish climber wrote:Is it called "Verticle Desert" ? An old CBC film I believe.

Re: Squamish Gondola Proposal – What YOU Can Do
I would have no real problem with a gondola if it didn't infringe on the parks. Goat Ridge from Britannia would be fine with me; the Britannia Creek drainage is totally screwed up as it is. The current proposal is not acceptable to me; I'm opposed to anything motorized that infringes on the parks. I...

Re: Siwash Rock?
The rock is pretty solid (but then I'm an old-school choss-a-holic), but it's not granite. Can be a bit brittle. The easiest route is up the side facing the seawall. Bottom half is easy; crux is the so-calles "slippery slab" just before the angle eases off near the top. Not difficult (5.4?), but can...

I've bought from him before, a few things. Also sold him some stuff. He's been around for years. IMHO his prices in the past tended to be higher than the condition warranted, but I haven't seen a list for him for some years, so that may or may not still be true.

Survey: Trails in BC & Canada
The following may be of interest to some who follow this forum: Since November 2010, the Outdoor Recreation Council of BC has represented BC’s trails-related organizations at the National Trails Roundtable (NTR) meeting in Banff. The goals of the NTR were twofold - to promote a more cohesive trails ...

Hey Aitch, "old dude with boots?" Not me, that was Culbert! And Heather and Vance, too. Jeremy has promised to haul me up later in August. I did Slab Alley yesterday. Still a fun, pleasant route.

I don't object to bolts at belays when the natural stuff has rotted out and there's no gear alternative.Tree for a bolt seems fair to me

I agree with the comments by Hamish regarding YPLS. Remove the bolt. Please don't add any bolts on Clean Corner. In 1967 I wrote: A few comments on bolts seem to be called for... Most Vancouver climbers strongly dislike bolts and will go to great lengths to avoid placing them. All climbers are asked...

Re: Upper Apron Projects
I've always understood Granville Street (the route) was the mantle at the start of Boomstick Crack, then climbing diagonally right across the slab to the base of the groove/tree line. A bolt has been added part way across the slab - I wonder by whom, or why? IIRC, it was originally graded class 5, ...

Re: Upper Apron Projects
I believe the original (1st ascent) start to Granville Street was to hop up onto the start of Boomstick (not Broomstick) Crack and pad right and up across the slabs. Don't know if the start is defined differently now or not.

Re: Yosemite Pinnacle - Left Side
T&TGT are pretty much due west of downtown Squamish, across the river and south of Monmouth Creek. Definitely not granite; rotting volcanic rock eroded into half a dozen small pinnacles and towers, with plenty of moss and shrubery growing in the cracks. Take hard hats and watch for ticks!! Be prepar...
