Re: New start to Calculus Crack

My friend and I climbed this route today. It was clean and dry, easy to find, and good fun. The corner on P1 is the tricky bit. It helps to use all the surrounding rock. 5.9 seems right. Going straight over the bulge at the start of P2 is spicy and rewarding. While the bolts at the top aren't necess...

Re: AMO Wall new routes and Seal Cove update

Holy sh*t, that's my buddy Kevin belaying me in pic #1. I chatted briefly with Kieran about Skywalker. It was a great day to be out. Thanks for posting the pictures. :)

Re: New Routes Right of Zoe, Murrin Park.

I want you to explain how Chek would not exist because of this rule. As I said, I just assumed it was a pro-bolt zone. I did not check each climb for bolt worthiness because it's not something I spend time doing, so I can't answer your question. I retract my statement. My point remains: the cost of...

Re: New Routes Right of Zoe, Murrin Park.

To call me selfish wasn't an attack on my character? ... very well I can play that game too. I simply meant that your position was self-important. Look, this is going nowhere. I found your response snarky. It's negative, it doesn't help anybody, and thick skin or not, it shuts down discussion. Deal ...

Re: New Routes Right of Zoe, Murrin Park.

You provided these arguments: a) trad climbing is too expensive! b) bolts are ugly. You are oversimplifying. You argued that trad climbing is out of most people's reach because of the cost of the gear .. and that, therefore, the climbs should be bolted for them. Oversimplified. I said applying your...

Re: New Routes Right of Zoe, Murrin Park.

The cost of buying a trad rack should never be a consideration when placing bolts. That is ridiculous. It sounds like you want to be part of an exclusive group, which is elitist, and ridiculous. You think you are pretty high and mighty with your $200 rack. By the way, please show me where I can get...

Re: New Routes Right of Zoe, Murrin Park.

It's a difficult decision, and I think every bluff needs individual consideration. You can't apply the rule "only bolt if there's no natural pro" everywhere, because you'll restrict all those who can't afford to buy a $1K+ rack to slab. In contrast, bolting is not discriminatory because trad still r...

Re: Skywalker, 5p, 5.8

I climbed Skywalker with two friends today. Wow! What a beautiful climb and the view is nicer than from the Chief apron. We did Diedre in the morning and Skywalker in the afternoon, and I was surprised to find this new area was busier than the apron on a sunny weekend. (to the couple with the conver...

Re: North Van / West Van climbs

I've been there and it's pretty busy. I was there on the saturday of the July long weekend - ours was the only party there. I was up yesterday afternoon (Sunday, blue sky, hot) and there was only one party taking turns climbing a single route. That's because people go to Squamish on weekends. What ...

Guidebook, no. Internet, a bit. And some of the time, you just get lucky.
