Re: Simul Climbing Fall Inhibitor

I've used this sytem tons and it works well. But it's for easy ground, not for sick hard stuff. a) the second does nto tie in-- the rope runs through a grigri. 20 m or so of slack trails the 2nd-- this keeps the Grigri upright and allows the rope to slide up/down the grigri as the speed of leader an...

Squam. July 9 + 10 OR Washington Pass

My Washington pass partner just got a lung infection :-( so I have some climbing days. I will lead 11s on gear, follow anything, have rack and car, 13 yrs exp, reliable and mature, yadda yadda yadda. I would like to spend 2 days in Squamish, OR go to Washington Pass for Th-Sun and do 3 longer 10+/11...

Re: Funarama not so fun anymore

Barley's put up a couple of hundred routes. Most are very good; a few are classics; a few totally blow. At fifty bucks a route (and that's lowballing it) the man has sunk five digits and twenty thousand hours into hardware and routes that all of us have enjoyed. This could have been handled better. ...

Re: Passing etiquette on a multi pitch

Speaking of Leavenworth...this is the most f**ked thing I have ever seen: We went to do Outer Space. It was crowded so we did a couple of other routes and came back around 3. As we got to where that amazing 5.7 handcrack is we noticed a party on the 10D route to the left of O.S. The leader, a girl, ...

Re: La Gota Fria, 5.11b (A0), 18 pitches

Yup. Go for it. The route as a whole dries quickly (like 2 days after very heavy rain) June-Sept, but the 2nd 11+/12- pitch (right after the traverse) will take about a week to dry. If you wanna head up there with either me or Drilelr or both, drop me a PM. So after two years is it open to the publi...

Re: La Gota Fria, 5.11b (A0), 18 pitches

There's a FFA waiting...the two crux pitches have yet to be freed. Mike either did not try or did not manage to free them. P5 will go at 12c or so (bolt ladder right now) and P7-- if it ever dries-- oughtta be 11+. it's a pretty good route. There are 2 total crap pitches but they are short, easy, an...

Re: Some scary moments on Calculus Crack with a happy ending

Most of these guys (Honnold excepted) are soloing under two conditions a) they have done the route before b) it is usually 6 grades or so below their onsight level. If they are doing this on-sight, it's usually WAY below their onsight level. E.g. Honnold on that 12d in Zion-- the guy has climbed 5.1...

Re: Photophobia 5.10 5 p on Slhanay (Squaw)

This is a great route. Short, well-protected cruxes, good rests, cool position, and great rock. You can do this in 3-5 pitches. We had doubles to 2" which was nice for making long pitches. P1: Climb up the obvious corner to a rap station and a glue-in (5.10a). Judicious use of long slings means you ...
