Small Is Beautiful repaired
This is the leftmost 5.9 at Conroy's Castle/Chek, a popular beginner/teaching climb. Finally got out on the weekend and replaced the messed-up bolt at the top that's been there since last spring. Apparently the nut got loose and instead of tightening it, someone took it and the hanger off, and then ...

Deep Cove
3 more old routes now nearly ready at the quarry rock crag. 10a & 10c mixed, 5.8 sport. Another old route's prescrubbed, will need a couple bolts/cleaning and a station to go at about 10d/11a mixed. Does anyone know anything about that big (like 30+ m) bolted blunt arete on the side of quarry rock? ...

Great routesetting, guys.
Climbed at the Hangout a couple weeks ago-- though the space isn't as tall as at some lower mainland gyms, the new routesetting packs technical fun into the full length of the routes-- nearly every move an interesting one. Great to see a new option for those of us on the south side of town!

Chief Gondola
There is a serious proposal by a company (not Intrawest) to put in a gondola as on Grouse mountain, that would go up from somewhere just south of the Chief and continue up to 2nd or 3rd summit. Various facilities (restaurant etcetera) would I think go in somewhere on second summit, and there would b...

I agree with 10D
Man, that thing is weird at the bottom. I don't do much bouldering though. Found the lower moves entertaining but requiring longish reaches.

Spinning bolt on Master of my Domain (Crest Left)
4th bolt on the 5.8 start pitch is actually coming out of the hole. Sorry but I didn't have the right tools with me today to fix it. Not sure whether the bolt is broken or the hole's too big. Will take a drill and new bolt for next time I'm there in case no one else gets to it. Thank you to whoever ...

Name suggestion for the route
"Mountain King"
(says so on the concrete slab at the base-- you could pretend you poured this perfect belay slab and put the name on it). Thanks for the route!

Tree trimming @ Forgotten Wall
Good grief I hope they don't trim too much! On a hot day the shade from the trees is one of the best features of that wall. Guess this is the downside of a "collectively managed" area like Cheak-- if someone feels like it they could just cut ALL the trees down sometime.

Camo-Chalk
It came in three colours: A sort of brown, a sort of reddish, and a sort of dark greyish. Word on the street was that it didn't work as well as regular chalk. Probably just a malicious rumour but enuf to sink the product.

"Hate" in name one more definition
In French, "hate" (with a little accent on the "a") means haste or eagerness, so there's a bit of a bilingual thing going on in the name-- i.e. to satisfy eagerness/ hurry to do something.

Partner/rideshare for weekday climbing from Vancouver
Want to do some climbing this summer during the week but can't always find a partner? I like all sorts of climbing but especially want to do more sport in the .10-.11+ range. 10+ years experience, supersafe. I live in Vancouver and have a vehicle but gas is $$$ these days and many climbers can only ...

Easy routes Conroy's Castle (Chek) now all sport
Those wanting a warm-up or mellow day will like this. By popular request, bolts have been added wherever there were gear placements on any of the routes left of Charlotte's Web. Also, added a higher anchor to Small is Beautiful (.9) so parties can top out for the full Tantalus view and rap off Kingf...

John 3:16 rebolted
Upper Apron route John 3:16 (10c) is now rebolted-- all bolts exactly as for original climb in consult with F.A. This fun route is a stiffer alternative to Granville St. or Boomstick. Some of those little 1/4 inchers came out pretty easy.
