Keen weather guy, to be sure. It takes a lot of the edge off the soggy times to geek out at weather models though. Instead of incessant pounding rain, you can be thinking: cool, I saw this spinning up south of the Aleutians two days ago!

Do NOT trust the weather forecast -- especially the extended forecast -- from this site. It is a direct feed from the Weather Network, which I have found to have the least reliable forecasts for here. I suspect it is because the WN puts out forecasts for hundreds of places, and therefore they are co...

The Chief is granodiorite or monzogranite, haven't looked under a microscope to tell for sure. You can call it granite, and geologists won't make fun of you. At least this one won't. The melting point of granite is much lower than the melting point of quartz, even though quartz makes up 20-40% of th...

This Sunday and next week...

... just got into town ... in between unpacking boxes, I'd like to get in some pitches. Poor lifestyle choices have kept me away from the rock for longer than I'd like to admit. These days I'd lead 5.9 trad / follow 10; I've been climbing for a while now, and am pretty efficient and safe. My time is...

Campgrounds in K-country are usually a lot less busy than in the parks. There are a lot of campgrounds throughout Kcountry, and they are typically far more low key and less crowded than, say, the Banff or Lake Louise campgrounds. My favorite pay spot is Spray Lakes campground. The sites are on the s...

Partner May 28 -> June 2

I will be in Squamish all week long. I am looking for a place to live -- I am moving there in July. In between that I would like to climb as much as I can and the weather permits. I have gotten fat and stupid from not having climbed in a long time, but can lead 5.9 trad, 5.10 sport. I have been clim...
