Re: Stories of Squamish Climbers in Yosemite

Thanks for your note. Since Right Wing, the indefatigable Andy C. has dragged me up the Grand Wall, which was more strenuous than Right Wing. In fact, Right Wing was a warm-up for Grand Wall. But I slightly disagree with Russ Clune's evaluation of the Grand Wall - that if you can climb this, then yo...

Re: Stories of Squamish Climbers in Yosemite

Hmmm -- what about Valley climbers at Squamish ( that would sort of include HevyDuty, wouldn't it?) I descended from Middle numerous times in the 90s, and that descent got a lot worse after a huge rock fall around 2001 or 2002; a VW size block crashed right down the descent route. It's not so bad if...

Re: Slhany (sic?) - right wing

Andy and I climbed it this August; and I thought the Filibuster pitch was brutal, even done in two pieces. I doubt I would have gone up on the route without the middle belay --- getting old and feeble, I guess!

Re: Squamish's stiffest routes...

How about the 5.7 pitch on Merci Me? I comfortably led Banana Peel, the Snake, and various slab climbs in Tuolumne, and did not lead Merci Me.

Re: Millenium Falcon TR - some great shots

Thanks for your kind reference to my post. Andy Cairns took the photo of me on pitch 2 ( and most of the photos on our climbs), so should get credit for his stellar photography! MF was my favorite route on this trip. I talked it up so much, that now my son ( in college in Portland) wants to go climb...

Re: Nice TR of Europa

Kris, I loved Millenium Falcon. I thought pitch 2 was stellar - my favorite on the route. Everything was clean up to the end of pitch 5. The traverse across trichome ledge was partly in the forest, so I'd guess someone could knock stuff down from there. Pitch 8, which ended in the tree, had a lot of...

Re: Nice TR of Europa

When we climbed Millenium Falcon yesterday, we encountered a group of three climbers at the base— one (sort of) up one pitch, a second following, and the third at the base. When I expressed surprise that they were climbing M.F. as a group of three, he told me "NO, we're climbing Europa." They said t...

Re: Nice TR of Europa

Thanks for your comments on my blog post. I climbed the route with Andy Cairns, who lives in N. Vancouver and has climbed the route numerous times —and recommended it. While it is old-school, with trees, bushes, chimneys, and long corners, I did not notice any loose rock on the main pitches. The onl...

Ride offered from Squamish to Colorado

It's a long way to go and I get a sore neck with all that driving -- anyone want to head south? Leaving Squamish about Aug. 26 - 30 (earlier if wet) and heading to Portland, Smith rocks, City of Rocks, then home, which is Silverthorne, Colorado

Ride to Colorado or SLC or City of rocks

I'm driving to Colorado sometime in August and can take a rider to Colorado, or City of Rocks. Would like to stop and climb at Smith Rocks for a day, if the weather is right.

Squamish

Hi, I expect to arrive the end of this week and will stay until the end of the month. I'd love to climb; have been in Squamish before. I used to lead easy 10s, but had hand surgery a while ago and am a little out of shape right now. Before various injuries, i had onsighted a few 11s - on gear routes...
