Re: Scary days at the Smoke Bluffs......

This is a great thread, Nate ... thanks for sharing. If even one person learns something from what you've written, that's great. Another lesson that I picked up on in your story is one that is universally applicable across all forms of climbing: if you're going to change plans, give the new plan as ...

Re: North Van / West Van climbs

No idea .. I'm at work on weekday afternoons.

Weekday evenings, I've never had trouble getting on a route or three.

Re: grand wall cooking

Protip: the water is still very cold. If you're cunning, you can find ways to keep your food well refrigerated. This means that you can keep eggs, bacon, etc., for a couple of days even during a Squamish summer.

I was there on the saturday of the July long weekend - ours was the only party there.
I was up yesterday afternoon (Sunday, blue sky, hot) and there was only one party taking turns climbing a single route.

Re: Here we go again (Squamish Gondola proposal)

They still won't give up that hoary old nonsense about the Chief being "the world’s second largest granite monolith". It's tiresome, almost reedonkulous. The chamber of commerce or tourism bureau or something seems to have come up with the absurd claim decades ago, and continue to embarrass themsel...

Re: North Van / West Van climbs

You misunderstood completely. The traffic at Sully's is completely normal for a crag that is within city limits. It is a 15-20 minute drive for most people who're close to the highway. Being 'adventurous' has no bearing on a crag that is so close to the city. If you want less people, you need to get...

Here we go again (Squamish Gondola proposal)

I hate that people think that every inch of the province needs to be easily accessible .. bad enough that the Chief trail is practically all stairs now.

Re: North Van / West Van climbs

"Pretty busy" is something that you'll need to get used to if you're going to climb within walking distance of a city of 2 million people which is known for its love of outdoor sports.
