Re: Large rockfall, North Walls
No one's mentioned it yet, so I'll add to the information here. The two blocks that came out formed the Chilkoot Pass finish to Northern Light, with the large belay ledge between the pitches serving as a launch ramp for the upper block. I climbed these pitches with Travis McC last summer, aND there ...

Re: Rappelling Black Dyke
With cunning and a long enough cheater stick anything is possible. I haven't been on the route, but I imagine you could back-aid the roofs on bolts; if you're looking for company and tech support, I could go on an obscursion later this month.
p.s. have you seen the El Cap survey? Wild stuff.

Re: The new Robin Barley guidebook.
Remember MEC's book purge a few years back? Sure you do: black column of smoke rising from the rooftop parking lot of the Broadway store, charred wraiths of pages consumed by worms of ember as they tumbled heavenward, spittle from the mouths of barking fanatics that sizzled on the pavement... Ok, me...

Re: Magical Dog/Goin' to California
Marc- I noticed the same thing a few weeks ago when we were up there climbing cracks of girth. I went up today, removed the tree, and rapped the route to do a little inspection. No scrubbing needed, everything appears to be in order. Anyone reading this because you're considering going up there to w...

Lost Green Jacket, base of Seasoned in the Sun
Hey there, We warmed up on Seasoned in the Sun early on Saturday, then headed up to University Wall. I tossed my green Arcteryx windstopper jacket down from the anchors of Seasoned and saw it land in the bushes to the left of the route. "Great," thought I, "I'll come back and pick it up tonight." Li...

Nervous Ticks (sic)
Plato tells of a student of Socrates who overheard a friend of his complaining after losing his notes; to this the philosopher responded: "You should have inscribed them in your psyche (mind) and not on paper." And while Plato presents this as a matter of personal improvement and discipline, I think...

Partners/ Summer Camp Spot in Hope
Hey everybody, I figured this was the most logical place for this post. I'm a climber from Vancouver who just got posted to the Haig Fire Base in Hope for the summer. I'm looking for two things: - Partners for cragging and bouldering around Hope early in the season, and alpine rock later on (I'll be...

Climbing/training partners in Vancouver
I'm looking for someone in Vancouver to train with for long free climbs in Squamish and Index (Freeway, U-Wall, etc.) and alpine rock routes in the Cascades (Slesse et al.) I have a weekends-only schedule, so I'm particularly interested in an approach designed to maximize the 48-hour window. Also in...
