Re: Smoke Bluffs got a haircut
They are doing all that work for some reason, and I'm not sure it is for our benefit. Housing?

Re: squamish climbing cartoons
They are by Tami Knight. Some of her cartoons are still in print, including "Climbing Tales of Terror"; PM me if you want her email address. Check out the long article by her in Alpinist 43 on Squamish climbing (sorry, no cartoons, though). Get them while you can. Her cartoons are so good that they ...

That's an astonishing list! Probably never equalled and probably seldom to be repeated. Well done!

Re: Boomstick Crack with beginner/ child
Once you get off the ground on Boomstick Crack it's pretty easy. Just walk on top of the flake; he can lean into the rock if he feels insecure. Granville Street has the same start, but I think you'd find it more run-out for your second: the first pitch is a long traverse to the right and not much pr...

Re: South Apron Closed: Rock Fall Hazard - until further not
This sort of thing is always going to be a problem on the Apron. You can see the outward-sloping joints (fractures) in the photo in the O.P. The big rockfall on Sickle in the 1960s was a result of failure of one of those joints: the block was then unsupported and off it came. The current killer bloc...

Re: Heli evac off north walls
BK, well said, and right on target. Reading this thread, it sounds as if the parties below were thinking "It's all about me! Me!! Me.!!" It wasn't. Sounds as if PB and the rescue team did a great job; they've got my respect. Perhaps those who think it's too dangerous to descend shouldn't be up there...

Re: structures bolted to sea cliffs
The anchors appear to be below high tide line, which might mean they are not in the park itself.

Beckey turns 90 today. Might be time for some of the young turks to do Angel's Crest or Papoose One in honour of his birthday.... (take ice tools?)

Re: Stawamus River climbers camp mess
I think the sort of thing BK and the letter-writer describe should be actively discouraged, otherwise the cops will do it for us. And after-the-fact cleanup is necessary. The garbage won't go away on its own. Perhaps something along the lines of Yosemite's Facelift once or twice a year? I'd be willi...

Re: anyone fallen off diedre?
About 1964 or 1965, I was leading the last pitch of Diedre. I was climbing the slabs maybe 20 right of the corner ( this might now be on White Lightning - I don't know, but theres no pro on those slabs). I got most of the way up, was heading left for the top of the Diedre corner, and it started to r...
