Essential Squamish beta
Coffee. Along with alcohol one of the five essential substances central to climbing. Now, there are options in Squamish, beginning with gas-station coffee (cheap), McDonalds (24/7 and not bad) but the question remains, where is the best coffee in Squamish? The answer: at the Adventure Center. Yes, t...

There was a US case in 2006 or so like this-- Woman in Salt Lake advertises for climbing partner with experience. Meets dude who has gear and has set up topropes. They go toproping. Dude runs rope directly over a piece of webbing tied between two bolts. Woman takes a massive screamer and gets majorl...

Re: Squamish SAR busiest in province
A shout-out to Squamish S.A.R.: when I had my accident on July 1, they were super fast and very professional (I was told SAR was on-site in 20 min). Perry Beckham, John Howe and the others, very good operation you guys are running, THANKS.

Potrero is out-- serious security issues not in Potrero per se but in areas around it-- basically there is no law, period, and if the big-timers don't f**k with you the small-timers who enjoy the absence of cops will. Araps is awesome if you have the $$ for airfare. J-tree would top my list: you can...

Re: Simul Rapping
In my experience, two organised experienced people can save a bunch of time simulrapping, but only when a) you don't have to build belays/bail stations b) there is no need to slide the knot over the edge when starting a rappel c) you don't have Red-Rocks-style howling sideways winds d) you tie knots...

Re: Sun Beam Wall - Empire in the Sun
Steve One more question: has anyone climbed (either of) the two routes to the left of E.i.t.S.? How are they? Thx, Steve Did Afficionado's Crack (a good route except P2 which is easily avoided): P1: 5.10b. Good face climbing bring some long runners. P2: Crap-- it is a 15-foot boulder problem that is...

Re: Simul Climbing Fall Inhibitor
I've used this sytem tons and it works well. But it's for easy ground, not for sick hard stuff. a) the second does nto tie in-- the rope runs through a grigri. 20 m or so of slack trails the 2nd-- this keeps the Grigri upright and allows the rope to slide up/down the grigri as the speed of leader an...
