Great news: Chek facilities are set to improve

Received this email today from the Access Society of BC. Looks like the Chek climbing area will be getting new outhouses and other improvements. Does anyone have any info as to whether this also means the access road will be graded more often? Good work on behalf of the CASB and SAS and thanks for w...

Check out these photos of La Gota Fria, Milk Road et al

If you haven't yet check out Andy's Squamish 2010 photo essay head over there now. There are some great shots of new some new climbs such as Milk Road - a beautiful photo of the dike pitch, the steep looking La Gota Fria and the Feather. I also really like a shot of Sunblessed with Mamquam(?) in the...

Squamish 2010 some photos to get you stoked

Local climber Andy Cairns posted some photos from last year's climbing season over on supertopo. I thought they were really good and deserved to be shown here, which he ok'd. They capture the essence of Squamish - big walls, splitter cracks and fun times with good people. What do you think? And if y...

Re: Chief Falcon closures for 2011

Great news that Milk Road and Freeway are not included in the Falcon closure. It seems to me that this consultative process has led to the least restrictive closure in years.

Well done everyone.

Skaha calls - with this video

Squamish weather is still kinda blah. Last weekend Skaha looked really nice, in this video. Maybe a trip to the Interior is the way to get on some warm rock. Except maybe not this weekend, the forecast does not look much better than here. 23192120 Anybody climbed there this year? Post up with your c...

Province removes parking fees at BC Parks

This is pleasant news. Parking fees at BC Parks are gone. Here is part of the news story from cbc.ca/bc Parking will now be free in provincial parks, B.C. Premier Christy Clark announced on Tuesday, as part of the 100th anniversary celebration of the provincial park system. "The parking meters are c...

Big Refurbishment of Squamish climbs complete

By my count, over 41 routes/pitches were rebolted/refurbished this winter due to a Squamish Access Society initiative and carried out by Squamish Rock Guides and Westcoast Mountain Guides. Highlights include a complete refurbishment/bolt replacement of Cruel Shoes/ Grand Wall - the marquee climb on ...

Re: Name this climb -- if you can even see it

Close enough, admittedly the photo isn't very good. I took the photo from the top looking down. I think that's one of the top anchor bolts you can just see sticking out of the moss. The climb is Robin's Route, 5.10c , four bolts plus gear. Here's the description from the Bourdon guide: "A very short...

No, but like Beached Whale, this route is rated two stars in the Bourdon guide.

New Trail Crag X to top tier crags

Snapped this photo while walking back down to the Smoke Bluff car park. This is the start of the new trail from Crag X up to Lumberland and beyond. The Smoke Bluff Park Advisory Committee spearheaded this, looks like nice work. Anybody been up this, what do you think? https://lh5.googleusercontent.c...

Name this climb -- if you can even see it

This is a relatively new route but obviously it hasn't been climbed in a while. I took this picture while out cragging at Smoke Bluffs last weekend. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_KD3Pjlq3sPE/TbY8tEnSFKI/AAAAAAAABIc/zADQxDSyq0s/s640/DSCF2177.JPG Here's a hint, it was in the vicinity of this crag...

Squamish climber stabbed - taken to LGH

Over on the Preview of new route at Shannon thread Jeremy mentions as he was being treated for a nasty gash to his wrist as a result of an accident cleaning a new route, another local climber was brought into the ER with a knife wound. But this was no accident. According to an article in the Squamis...
