Re: Squamish Mountain Festival 2011
Noticed that Dean Potter has been removed from the original lineup. Anybody know why he is no longer coming?

Re: Sea to Sky Trail -- anybody been on it?
Thanks Dru, I knew I could count on you to have some knowledge on this. A nice dome and roof cracks sounds interesting... And the setting is kind of spectacular, kind of like Starchek++. It looks like you could combine it with a mtn bike ride. If anyone ventures down there post some pictures.

Sea to Sky Trail -- anybody been on it?
There was an article in the May28th edition of the Georgia Straight about the ongoing Sea to Sky Trail project and the section through Cheakamus Canyon. I'm wondering if anybody's been on it through the canyon and if there are any new climbing possibilities in the Canyon. Post up if you have any inf...

Stanley Cup Run
I'm sure we'll get back to the regularly scheduled programming but right now it seems like that's all anybody is talking about. Who wants to comment on Stanley Cup finals? The puck drop for Game One is a little over an hour away, Who is going to score first? (I say Kesler) - Who is going to take the...

Re: Community Legacy Program
This looks like a great opportunity to make some concrete improvements to trails and facilities at Stawamus Chief park or Murrin. Folks should know the deadline for applications is June 16th so get your ideas in to CASBC soon, they need to time to write up the application. Here is the link to the Co...

McColl grabs bronze at World Bouldering Comp in Canmore
The first time Canada hosts a World Cup Bouldering Competition and Vancouver native Sean McColl finishes on the podium-- not bad eh? Read more about the hugely successful May 27 & 28th event at Gripped.com

Re: Murrin Park New developed areas
No one wants to take credit yet for these climbs? They sound good. What would you guess the grade of these climbs? Everyone, Chris Small (smallman) put up some new routes at the western end of Pet Wall New Routes 2009 – 2010 Pet Wall, Murrin Park, Squamish, BC if you haven't climbed them you should....

Birds of Prey - loose block status
On another thread Jeremy Blumel noted there was a big loose flake at the belay at the base of Birds of Prey crux corner pitch. I've heard, as of last fall, that it had slid and was teetering against some tree roots. If so it's a threatening granite surfboard waiting to cleave parties off the route c...

Re: May Long Weekend - Where's everyone climbing
Tell me it isn't so... The forecast is now calling for 80 % of POP on Saturday and 40 % on Sunday. WTF is up with the weather. Is this forecast changing anybody's plans?

Re: Squamish Mountain Festival 2011
I was googling the web about the Squamish Mountain Fest and came across this interesting news piece in the Salt Lake Magazine , Utah's bi-monthly glossy mag. It ranked SMF in the top five for Climbing Festivals in the West. We're right up there with Salt Lake's own : Hera Climb4Life - a Black Diamon...

Re: Squamish Mountain Festival 2011
The official site and sched are up. Looks very good - out of town speakers include Dean Potter, Cory Rchards and Ed Cooper. And Squamish local and guide Jasmin Caton kicks things off with Margo Talbot for Oh Canada night. Jasmin will be talking about her trip with Kate Rutherford to Greenland's gran...

May Long Weekend - Where's everyone climbing
The long weekend is approaching and the weather doesn't look half bad -- finally. The rain and chilly temps were getting to be a real drag. At this point Saturday and Sunday look the best with Monday a little iffy? BTW what's up with the very different forecasts between Environment Canada and the We...

Re: Book Suggestions
Interesting, the first two suggestions seem relatively obscure but I'll have to try and dig those books up.
Another more 'modern' classic is Touching the Void, the story of Joe Simpson's crawl out of a crevasse with a busted up leg and down to base camp. It's a compelling story of human endurance.
