New routes! new crag! Gonzales Creek area

Stewart, this is great. Would love to see any pics or topos on this new crag. How much potential for new routes do you think this area has? What is the potential for easy moderates? FYI: I merged your last post with the original one just to keep them together. Thanks to you and Jeremy for your hard ...

Re: The story behind Squamish route names

I was hoping Anders Ouram would jump in here, hopefully he will, because he's got a lot of this already down. In the meantime, with full credit to Anders and his thread over on supertopo here is little more history on route names: Neat &Cool: Yes it does come from graffiti but part of it is missing ...

Test of Metal - June 18 - Goes through Smoke Bluffs

Be prepared and plan accordingly for bigger crowds tomorrow (Saturday). It's the TOM race day. The last leg of the course goes through Smoke Bluffs - past Neat & Cool and out through the Smoke Bluffs parking lot. So it's not a good place to hang out especially with a dog. Racers have enough to deal ...

Re: Lost - Deuter Guide bag, lots of gear within

Sorry to hear about this. Let's hope if this gear was taken, that person will realize how stupid the move was and man up and return the gear. Maybe provide more details and folks could be on the lookout for it.

Re: Stanley Cup Run

Game Day for Game 7. Who would have thought it would all come down to this. If the Bruins score first, I might seriously think of going rock climbing instead of watching a potential train wreck. Seriously, instead of going for a mellow walk on the seawall Luongo should go climb something like Teeter...

Re: The story behind Squamish route names

Funny story Bruce, about March of the Kitchen Utensils. I had never heard that one before. And Mears Island and Loggers are People too bring back memories of a different time when things were a lot more polarized and the 'war in the woods' hit close to home for many people in Squamish. Rolf, Sticky ...

The story behind Squamish route names

On another thread Tenn offered up a story behind the climb Even Steven. Even Steven definitely deserves mention and more traffic. Heard an interesting story about the origin of the name of this one...Apparently the first ascencionist had spent the spring scrubbing up bop till you drop at the cirque ...

BC Parks Grant - Get your ideas in

Has anybody sent their ideas to the Climbers Access Society of BC for the grant through the Community Legacy Program? Check out the CASBC post on this forum for more detail. The deadline is next week (June 16th). Here is an explanation of the grant: "As part of BC Parks’ centenary celebrations, we a...

Last week for 50 Classic Squamish Climbs Poster

I'm sure you have noticed the banner ad for 50 Classic Squamish Climbs at the top of the forum. It's been up for over a month. And I have to say it looks good to have a photo of the Chief up there. Squamish local and guide Eric Hughes (aka squamish monkey ) and local photographer Tim Tallevi produce...

Re: Beta for the Grand Wall (Split Pillar and the Sword)

Eventually, it's time to woman up. Stop thinking about gear. Stop thinking about the left crack. Stop thinking about the exposure. Start thinking about the chains. And sprint! Short, colourful and to the point --that has to be some of the best written beta I've read in while. You almost need to giv...

Hey Max, Hope you have a great trip to Squamish. And good luck getting a partner. It may be a little early to post here for a trip in August so make sure you come back and bump your post to the top closer to your departure. Also you should know that finding a partner is not a problem. There are tons...

Re: Sea to Sky Trail -- anybody been on it?

Hey Dru thanks for the pix. I know when I drive by the canyon on the highway I always wonder what's around the corner down there. So when I read the article and the went to the website on the trail it got me psyched to wander down sometime and check it out. Still looks like there's a lot of new rout...

Squamish climbing gets big profile in the Guardian Newspaper

A nice travel piece on Squamish ran in the weekend edition of the Guardian / Observer . It focuses on the world class climbing and mountain biking. Those poor Brit climbers raised on grainy gritstone must be drooling at our solid granite and splitter cracks framed by mountain and ocean views. Someti...
