Re: Here we go again (Squamish Gondola proposal)
The Climbers Access Society of BC has emailed its members and posted on its website information about the gondola proposal. A new proposal for a gondola in Squamish was announced yesterday. The proposed gondola would launch from the gravel pit nestled between the Chief and Shannon Provincial Parks, ...

Re: Here we go again (Squamish Gondola proposal)
Careful what you wish for, a gondola up the west side of the Squamish River could make the Tantalus a little too tantalizing and put a lot of pressure on quite a pristine alpine area. Maybe save that for the $300 heli ride. I would like to see a footbridge across the Squamish River but I'm a little ...

Re: Here we go again (Squamish Gondola proposal)
The Squamish Access Society has already been briefed on this proposal. I understand they will inform members on the details of the meeting next week. Charlie Harrison president of the SAS offered his own opinion to the Chief newspaper today: “Based on the initial information that's been provided, it...

Re: Here we go again (Squamish Gondola proposal)
Here we go again but as mentioned upthread, these are different people this time. They're local and are probably keenly aware of the reasons the last proposal didn't fly. This proposal does not go up to the top of the Chief but up the ridge line towards Mt Habrich two hundred meters above the Chief ...

Re: Birds of Prey - loose block status
Big props to you guys. That surfboard block definitely needed to go and it didn't need much help. A big fb like for the video, with two camera angles and everything. Thanks again to everyone involved.

Re: Skywalker, 5p, 5.8
That's an amazing before shot of the belay ledge. You unearthed some gold there Jeremy.
Here is a nice shot of the Skywalker traverse pitch from Nick Elson's blog, an ACMG Assistant Rock Guide in Squamish.

Re: Gear Anchor on Calculus Crack
Best wishes for a speedy recovery and getting back the gear. Injured climbers' gear is not booty IMO.
What happened up there? Pulled gear?
thanks

Re: Birds of Prey - loose block status
Jeremy posted a little more about the trundle on the Climbers Access Society of BC website . He notes trundling the block required minimal effort and took with it the tree that was holding it back. As well all the debris on the pitches below was removed and bolts on the climbs below were inspected a...

Thirty six years ago today the Royal Hudson....
This brings back memories. It was 36 years ago today that the Royal Hudson #2860 began her daily run between North Vancouver and Squamish. I think the last scheduled trip ended around 2000. I remember around 94 or 95 I was working for Extreme Mtn Gear. We opened up a shop in Squamish for the summer....

New Vid featuring Alex Honnold and Squamish
Alex Honnold has some great things to say about Squamish and the climbing in Squamish in a new video. Here's the intro blurb: Black Diamond athlete Alex Honnold lives in his van. Sometimes down by the river, sometimes not. Last summer he and his van spent a considerable amount of time enjoying the g...

Marc Bourdon penned a nice write-up in UK Climbing
Guidebook author, Marc Bourdon wrote a nice destination piece on Squamish bouldering that came out today on UKclimbing.com . Here's the lead paragraph: Squamish is Canada's premier bouldering destination. The temperate, West Coast climate and perpetually shaded boulder fields make it one of the best...

Re: looking for info on cliff across the howe sound
The crags over there have seen several deep water solos by Matt Maddaloni and others. I believe one of them is called Ocean's Wall. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2544/4096992958_8b641b0af9_b.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2714/4096262905_9f77c11d0f_b.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2513/4096...

Sonnie Trotter frees Edge of Pan
Sonnie Trotter posted on his blog yesterday that he climbed the crux pitch of the new free climb he opened on the Pan Wall. The wall is one of the steepest and most exposed on the Chief, located to the right of the Squamish Buttress. The old aid route "Edge of Pan" is 5 pitches 5.8, A3. Sonnie says ...
