Re: Scary days at the Smoke Bluffs......

Gumby newbs should not be soloing.
They shouldn't be leading either, especially on runout trad gear.

Re: Scary days at the Smoke Bluffs......

There is an interesting correlation between this thread and the thread titled "Calling out the Hacks." http://www.squamishclimbing.com/squamish_climbing_bb/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3532 Some of the same people have posted to both the threads, but the tone is quite different. This is not meant as a troll ...

Re: Not a rock!

The correct thing to do is yell "ROCK". Even if you think there are no people below, you still need to do it, because you never know for sure who or what is down there. Even if what's coming down isn't a rock, you still yell "ROCK" because that's the universal signal. Yelling anything else will conf...

Re: stairway to heaven

Yeah, but, do the upper pitches!

It's quite an adventure. I actually really enjoyed the Traverse of the Gods. It's an incredible position to be in, so high up on the Chief!

I also really enjoyed the Millennium pitches and the Upper Black Dyke pitch, despite tricky cruxes!

Re: stairway to heaven

When I climbed it several years ago, my climbing partner and I took a full set of quickdraws. We also included a "light adventure rack" consisting of a single set of nuts and a set of Metolius TCUs. That turned out to be a wise decision. Having the extra gear really came in handy at a couple of key ...

Re: Here we go again (Squamish Gondola proposal)

With respect, I wonder why people are discussing the other side of the river as if it is a viable option. This is not a public works project whereby capital spending can simply be redirected based on the preferences of the local climbing community. This is a business venture, and obviously the autho...

Re: Left Side of the Papoose

Hey speaking of the Papoose, is there something on the backside? Doesn't McLane mention something about climbs there?

Anyway, I found an old flagged trail that seems to lead to the power lines before becoming indistinct.

What's back there?

Re: Here we go again (Squamish Gondola proposal)

Who cares why TLC can't afford it. I do respect your opinion on the matter, and I can see the other side of the argument. But, it just so happens that I care. Quite a bit, actually. I've never even remotely liked the fact that TLC put the gravel pit up for sale, and after repeated attempts to disco...

Re: Here we go again (Squamish Gondola proposal)

TLC can't afford to protect it any longer.
Why not? Why are they selling it? Where's the "Conservancy" in that?

Put in a gondola there and you change the "wild" character of the park forever.

It's not a good thing.

Re: Birds of Prey - loose block status

OK I watched the video 3 times already. I may watch it at least one more time, too.

Looks like that root grew behind the flake and may have pressured it off.

It just looks like it would have destroyed anything in its path...

Re: Skywalker, 5p, 5.8

I haven't climbed Skywalker yet, but I am very much looking forward to it. Thanks for all your tendon-severing hard work. I'm wondering what might have made this climb rise so much faster than all others I think the obvious answer is that people are ravenously hungry for moderate-grade multi-pitch a...
