Very useful info about the ropes guys and something we will have a chat about as obviously don't want to hump over more gear than is necessary, and agree about the clusterfu** when using 2 ropes on a multi-pitch From checking out the guide at least the Squamish slabs have bolts on them (?!) (unlike ...

Cheers all, I'll show your replies to my boyf. Chris (I am a she - proper name Rowena!) It's interesting to read the different techniques between countries! I don't know of anybody over who climbs with anything longer than a 60m and it's unusual to climb with just a single rope unless it's a straigh...

Yeah, gear belays are the norm here - we don't have much bolted stuff in Scotland really. We will probably take a single 60m rope (which we use for winter routes) and one of our skinny 50m ropes, that way we have the option of using double ropes on the multi pitch stuff and the 60m rope on the singl...

Gear Requirements for Squamish Trip
Hi Folks, Only 4 weeks now till we leave the misty (!) shores of NE Scotland for Squamish and starting to get a bit giddy marking routes in the guidebook! Just looking for any tips on things that we shouldn't leave home without. We've got a double set of nuts and a one full set of cams. Rope wise we...

I can't remember exactly but think site fees were on average $25 - $40 a night depending on the site? I know that in New Zealand you can park up anywhere and sleep (so, no cost) but don't know if Canada is the same? A small economy car for 18 days is abouit $550 - $600 (well, that's though a UK site...

Hi, FWIW I researched hiring a campervan from Vancouver for 17 nights during our forthcoming trip and it was just working out to be too expensive for us (the cheapest was about $2600 for that period). You will save money if you can wild park your RV as you will also have to pay site fees if you use ...

Hi Guys, Have looked at a few accommodation options and was wondering if (apart from the Squamish Hostel) if there were any other good self-catering places? We are a couple so looking for something kinda niceish but not too OTT. We camp most weekends here in Scotland (with the dreaded midgies!) and ...

Aw, thanks everyone for your suggestions - will have a squizz ... We were considering hiring a campervan to give us some flexibility incase the weather craps out - are they commonly used in the area? Have done both on previous climbing holidays ie/ car and motel and campervan which worked well but a...

Thanks Guys. As we are coming from Scotland we aren't used to climbing in hot sunshine ... in fact anything above about 20C! Getting rained off routes can be par for the course (especially after you've biked and walked 3hrs to get to the route!) and always have to carry a raincoat/duvet as never kno...

Best Time to Visit Squamish?
Hi, We are keen to plan a climbing trip to Squamish (from Scotland, UK). Due to other committments the earliest we could leave would be mid-September, and staying for about 2.5 weeks. Would this be too late in the season? Aside from climbing we are also keen to spend time mountain biking and paddlin...
