Re: Harvey - Pup Buttress

My two climbing buddies tried this a month ago and ended up doing some sh*tty vertical bushwacking. They probably should have looked for beta, and would have had better routefinding luck if they didn't try it covered in fog. Type 2 fun... http://cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&...

Wasp nest at Cabin Boy's Office

Near the base of Wet Dream (right side of the crag) two stumps on the ground where you'd stand to belay, lives a busy nest of these flying, stinging bastards. We tiptoed around them, but there's enough of them to start an angry mob should they not like the cut of your jib.

Re: Your shoe Rubber opinion wanted here!

Post your results with GS! I'd give them another go if your rubber lasts and doesn't peel. I tend to rotate my shoes, using the fresh resole at the beginning of the outdoor season, then as gym shoes in the winter, sending in my old gym shoes for new rubber to refresh the cycle.

Re: Your shoe Rubber opinion wanted here!

Maybe they've had staff changes...I had my shoes done at Gold Star in 2008, and used Quick Cobbler in 2010 and 2011. I just thought it was weird that both pairs I had done at GS delaminated so quickly vs my shoes done at QC. Either way, it sure beats shelling out twice as much for new shoes and havi...

Re: Your shoe Rubber opinion wanted here!

Before you drop your shoes off... I've had resoles done at Gold Star (Scarpa Dominators and Sportiva Mythos) and Quick Cobbler (2 pairs of Scarpa Technos) and I have to say I much preferred Quick Cobbler. Both soles I had done at Gold Star peeled and separated within a few months, and the toe kinda ...

LOST: cell phone in Bluffs carpark

My friend can't find his phone. Last known whereabouts we think, could be the Bluffs carpark. Tried calling it there and it was connected to his truck bluetooth thing, but after turning the truck and all our bags inside out at home, the phone is MIA. So if you found a SAMSUNG GALAXY S2 in a black Ot...

FOUND: Nut and cordalette on Angel's Crest

Found a nut on Angel's Crest on Saturday: newish, shiny, and not terribly stuck. Found a cordalette at the next belay. Hasty bail, perhaps? Describe 'em and you'll be reunited.

Re: Rapping Down to Broadway Mud Swamp

jmace : I actually do rap with my rope flaked on a sling attached to my harness if the situation requires it. Excellent skill to have. The swamp is small enough in the summer for safely throwing the rope, but pulling it down after...mud. bearbreeder: haha...I do see your point...but a clean rope is...

Re: Rapping Down to Broadway Mud Swamp

See, now that's why I said "discuss". Moving the rap anchor would be a better and possibly simpler solution. No need to get all "wtf" in block letters ;) So then: Move to a different tree or install a bolted rap station? To climber's left or climber's right? Aside from ropes landing in the sludge, t...

Re: Rapping Down to Broadway Mud Swamp

Well, I'd be game to do some excavating or contribute to something that keeps my rope from landing in the sludge.

Rapping Down to Broadway Mud Swamp

So this swamp at the bottom of the rap...I recall there being a post a while ago about changing the drainage or something so ropes don't get covered in goo after pulling them. What about chicken wire (or some non-rusting equivalent) to cover it up a bit to protect ropes? Secure it to the rock just a...

Re: Visiting Vancouver and new to outdoor climbing

Not implying that at all, Garnaphobe, just referring to a couple people I've witnessed. The most memorable was a guy with a brand-spanking double rack up to a #4 Camalot, miles of webbing daisy chained all over his harness, setting up a toprope at B&F with an american death triangle, telling his two...

Re: Visiting Vancouver and new to outdoor climbing

Hire a guide, hire a guide, hire a guide. Can't stress that enough. If you don't know how to set up or even double check an anchor, hire a guide. Any knob can go to a gearshop, outfit himself with plenty of shiny things and nylon things, and prance around the Bluffs like he owns the place. Hire a gu...

Re: STOLEN!

It was in New West. The ice tools were Vipers (the orange ones) and the boots were Nepals with "Cecile the Swiss" written inside. I bet these asshats have no idea what these things are even used for. I really hope karma will bite them good and hard, square in the rear end. Ugh.

Yeah...it's worse than I thought. Her Ice tools, mountaineering axe & boots, sleeping bag and thermarest were in there too.
Bugger.
