Can be done with a single rope, but don't be shy with your slingage. A double shoulder-length sling is very useful to extend your first piece in the upper corner. For retro-ing fixed anchor stations don't worry about approval from the FAs. In Squamish, it's regarded as a cool thing to do. Thanks for the effort.
